BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Western Washington University senior once banned from campus after being accused of raping a fellow student is back at school.

He pleaded guilty to assault with sexual motivation and was sentenced to a month in jail.

KIRO-7 reports the survivor of the assault graduated and is no longer on campus.

Alicia Newman is a junior and is unhappy that she had to find out about this from the media instead of administrators.

“I feel the trust has been violated to such an extent, time after time again, that I feel scared to be on this campus,” Newman says.

Another student, who wished to remain anonymous, says  students aren’t receiving justice.

“The university is completely willing to allow folks who have histories of violence back on this campus. It feels like a betrayal from a university that claims to have a ‘survivor centered process,'” the anonymous student says.

A Western spokesman says when any student re-enrolls at Western after very serious conduct cases, there is a deliberate re-entry process.

He won’t say anything about the specific case.

Since the readmitted student is not a registered sex offender, administrators are not obligated to inform students of his presence.
