BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Just 30 percent of water bodies tested in Whatcom County at the end of 2016 met water quality standards.
The biggest problem, according to the latest study, is fecal coliform bacteria.
The county says much of it is from animal waste from farms, pets, waterfowl and wildlife.
A lot of it also comes from human sewage from failing septic systems, leaking sewers, and cross-connections.
