BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Whatcom County construction industry is heating up as we head into summer.
The area added 1,600 construction jobs from April of last year to last month.
Overall, Whatcom County added 2,400 private sector positions in that period.
It’s part of a national trend.
“Unemployment fell to its lowest level in nearly 10 years last month, and we created 211,000 new jobs.”
That’s President Trump.
Government shed 400 jobs in Whatcom County.
The unemployment rate is now under 5%.
You have to go back about 10 years to find a 4.8% jobless rate like April’s.
