WESTPORT, Wash. (AP) – When it comes to a dead gray whale on a beach near Twin Harbors State Park in Westport, park rangers have decided to leave it alone.
It washed ashore Tuesday and is now being left to decay.
There’s also a dead Gray Whale on a remote beach near Lummi Island, and some people claim to have seen bears around it.
Twin Harbors Park rangers in Westport say “Visitors can expect strong, unpleasant smells as the carcass rots over the summer months.”
They advise people not to take parts off the rotting whale because it’s a federal offense.
