LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) – President Trump’s budget proposal would cut funding for an earthquake early warning system for Washington, California, and Oregon.
A Veteran seismologist says the loss of federal funding would stop the program.
Stephanie lives in an area where a major earthquake could do a lot of damage.
“The fact that the big one is on it’s way, which everyone agrees with, we need that advanced warning.”
A version of the Shake-Alert system is undergoing testing but still needs more seismic sensors installed.
The proposed budget would also eliminate federal funds for tsunami-monitoring stations and a volcano early warning system.
