Seattle. Wash – Seattle Mayor Ed Murray’s proposal to tax sweetened beverages won’t go to a vote of the city council this week as planned.

It’s still stuck in committee, as council members consider whether to join six other American cities in taxing sugar-filled drinks.

Bob Assorti at Natural Wave Beverages says this will drive up the cost of dining out and make it tough on restaurants.

“You’ve basically just increased rent by $500 to$ 2,000 a month for some  restaurants  and this is hurt full.”

Council members aren’t sold on the idea yet.

They’ll talk more about it in committee this week.
