PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The man charged with stabbing three men during a racist tirade aboard a Portland train is now complaining about the suppression of free speech.
Court documents say Jeremy Christian told jailers he is concerned that there’s no more free speech in Portland.
Christian also says he has no income, no mental health issue and no permanent address.
Meanwhile, the one man who did not die in the attack is speaking out.
“There are a lot of us that are not going to stand by and let anybody, whether they’re from here or not from here, scare you into thinking that you can’t be a part of this town, this city, this country.”
21-year-old Micah Fletcher and the two other men came to the defense of two young women.
Witnesses say Christian was yelling anti-Muslim comments at the women, one of whom was wearing a hijab.
