BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Strawberry lovers have reason to celebrate as the fruit is finally in season for Whatcom County.
Fields around the county are opening for u-picking, setting up stands and planning to send their berries to local stores.
Bellingham Country Gardens, Barbie’s Berries and Boxx Berry Farm are already selling strawberries, while harvesting and u-picking at other farms is expected to kick into high-gear next week.
This year’s harvest is much closer to the normal opening than last year when strawberries were ready to go in mid-May.
