BELLINHAM, Wash. – A new tax could be coming for homeowners in the Bellingham School District to pay for three new school buildings.

A task force is recommending that Alderwood, Parkview and Sunnyland Elementary Schools be replaced.

Freshman Madeline Ellis is a student representative on the task force.

“We decided they be most in need of renovations, they were the most falling apart they had the least space for children and also worst playgrounds and worst access to the fine arts”

Madeline is the daughter of KGMI News Director Tracy Ellis.

The task force says property taxes should be raised enough to pay for $155 million bond.

The measure could be on the February 2018 ballot.

It would need a 60% supermajority to pass.
