SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) – The arena saga in Seattle is taking a significant step forward.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray announced the city will enter into negotiations with the Oak View Group for the Key Arena renovation.

“The proposal they put forward is absolutely the best we’ve got of any of the proposals” Murray Said.

The remodel would bring the building up to the standards that could attract NHL and NBA franchises.

Murray says the arena would be the centerpiece of a revitalized Seattle Center.

“We’re working on a grand vision for what the Seattle Center can be for this city compared with other types of parks around the world.”

A competing group withdrew its bid on Sunday and criticized the city for the way it handled the process.

While another proposal for Sodo isn’t dead, it may be in its final stages with limited city support.
