FERNDALE, Wash. – Ferndale sewer and water rates appear to be on their way up.

The Ferndale City Council gave preliminary approval to a 3 percent yearly increase in rates.

By 2019, the typical Ferndale resident will be paying roughly $17 more a month than they’re paying now.

The most significant proposed increase will be in the cost to hookup to the city’s system.

It would nearly double by 2019 to close to $15,000.

The city needs the money to pay for a new wastewater treatment plant.
