BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham City Council will host a Town Hall Meeting on housing at 6:30 tomorrow in the Bellingham High School Auditorium.

It’s a chance for you to learn more about the current housing crisis affecting cities throughout the I-5 corridor, including Bellingham.

It’s also an opportunity to share your concerns and ideas.

The Whatcom County Council will hold a hearing on the size of a proposed jail at 7 o’clock tomorrow at the County Courthouse.

It’a chance for you to comment on the number of beds you think should be in a new jail, even though the county council already decided on the size of the jail.

The city council is waiting to make a decision about the jail until after the county’s public hearing, but city councilmembers won’t be there because they’ll be at the housing town hall.

Bellingham-Whatcom Chamber of Commerce President Guy Ochigroso says this means the County Council will be holding a jail public hearing on the same night as the City’s Town Hall on Housing.

He says, in the future, it is his hope that our elected leaders and public officials will do a better job of coordinating calendars with regards to these meetings.

Ochigroso says this lack of coordination and planning is a disservice to our community.
