The University of Washington women’s basketball team is losing their star point guard. The Seattle Times reports Aarion McDonald is transferring out of the program.
McDonald was a Pac-12 All-Freshman team selection after averaging 9.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 28 games last year. She made 21 starts for the Dawgs and was the third leading scorer on the team behind Kelsey Plum and Chantel Osahor.
It’s a tough start for new head coach Jody Wynn, who was hired in April to replace Mike Neighbors after he left for Arkansas. She inherits a team that made three straight trips to the NCAA tournament, but with McDonald’s defection combined with graduation, has now lost 5 players from last years Sweet 16 squad.
