Former Washington State University star Klay Thompson has his second NBA Championship ring. While the Golden State Warriors shooting guard is understandably happy about Monday’s NBA Finals clinching victory over Cleveland, his father may have some mixed emotions.

Klay’s father, Mychal Thompson, won two NBA championship rings with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980’s.  Monday night Klay told NBA TV, “I’m just happy, because I have as many as my pops now. I’m trying to get a couple more. He had that over me.  A little friendly trash talking.  Now to have as many as him and four in the family, it’s pretty special.”

Thompson also talked about adding the role of one of the top defenders in the NBA after being thought of as just a noted college scorer at Wazzu and during his first few years in the league.  “I always thought I could play D, just in college I wasn’t asked to do so much and coming in the draft I was known as a shooter,” said Thompson. “It started with the Mark Jackson era, where he demanded me to play defense.”

Thompson starred for the Cougars from 2008-2011 averaging 17.9 points per game.
