BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Most of the dozens of people who testified at a public hearing about a new Whatcom County Jail Tuesday night either want fewer beds than what’s being proposed, or no new jail at all.
A few people supported the current proposal of about 450 beds.
Around 30 people spoke out against the new jail plan, while less than 10 were in favor.
The testimony comes after the County Council already signed-off on the proposal and sent it to the cities.
The council did decide to hold off on starting the process of putting the measure in front of voters.
