BLAINE, Wash. – Shellfish on some Whatcom County beaches are still off limits as toxin levels continue to rise.

The Department of Health says Paralytic Shellfish poisoning in mussels from Birch Bay is at dangerous levels.

Beaches from Sandy Point north to the Canadian Border, including all of Point Roberts, remain closed to recreational shellfish harvesting.

The toxin levels in the Birch Bay mussels increased seven-fold over the previous week.
