RENTON, Wash. – The State Fire Marshal reminds people to extinguish and dispose of their fireworks safely as fire crews believe an improperly extinguished one caused a two-alarm house fire Wednesday morning in Renton.
KOMO reports crews responded at about 1:30 and say the firework was put in a recycling bin which caused it to reignite and spread to that house and a second home next door.
No one was hurt.
The Fire Marshal says the safest way to dispose of used fireworks is to submerge and soak them in water to ensure they aren’t smoldering anymore.
Then double wrap them in plastic bags and put them in the trash.
