OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – A new state agency to deliver services to vulnerable kids and families became a reality with the swipe of Governor Insleeās pen.
State Senator Jeannie Darneille says the Department of Children, Youth and Families represents a new way of doing business.
“This new department has so much potential for reinvigorating the real concept of who our client is here. We’re the State of Washington, our client is the child. And while we’re providing services for that child, we’re going to be able to strengthen their families as well.”
The new agency will oversee several services now offered through the state Department of Social and Health Services and the Department of Early Learning.
The creation of the new department is the result of suggestions from a bipartisan Blue Ribbon Commission Inslee convened last year.
