SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) – Seattle Mayor Ed Murray ordered the city’s police department to equip patrol officers with body cameras.
The Bellingham Police department enacted a similar policy one year ago, this month.
Murray’s decision comes one month after the a lack of video left lingering questions about a police shooting.
Officers shot Charleena Lyles, a pregnant mother who struggled with mental illness.
The city is negotiating with the Police Guild about the cameras, but those talks have stalled and Murray says the cameras are necessary.
