OLYMPIA, Wash. – A new report says people living in four state-run communities for the developmentally disabled suffered neglect and abuse.

The Disability Rights of Washington report cited the state’s own surveyors who found residents who choked to death, were sexually assaulted, denied basic treatment, and given wrong medications.

A spokesman for the state agency that oversees the centers says they responded to all safety violations identified by inspectors and made or are making progress on fixes.
