SEATTLE, Wash. – The Seattle Mariners made five roster moves one day after outfielder Mitch Haniger was hit by a pitch in the face during a win over the New York Mets. Haniger was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a facial laceration.
Seattle selected outfielder Leonys Martin from AAA Tacoma. Right-handed pitcher Erasmo Ramirez was added to the Mariners active roster. Pitcher Cody Martin was optioned to Tacoma and infielder D.J. Peterson was designated for assignment. M’s General Manager Jerry Dipoto announced The roster moves Sunday.
Hanniger was hit in the face by New York pitcher Jacob deGroom in the second inning Saturday and had to leave the game. According to the Seattle Times, Dipoto said Haniger will have to undergo some form of plastic surgery to repair the damage to his his severely lacerated lip.
The Mariners now have 7 days to trade, release or outright the contract of Peterson to the minor leagues.
