OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – The State Attorney General says Washington fulfilled its constitutional requirement to properly fund education.

But, it’s actually up to the State Supreme Court to make that determination.

AG Bob Ferguson asked the high court to drop a contempt order and end the lawsuit against the state.

The legislature approved a plan to increase spending on schools by $7.3 billion over the next four years.

The state has been in contempt of court since 2014 for lack of progress on satisfying a ruling that found education funding was not adequate.
