WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Burnout Road Fire is still burning in spots across about 63 acres on Chuckanut Mountain, but the fire spokesman says crews have made great progress.
Michael Krueger says they’ve knocked down the flames and are now going through the area looking for hot spots.
He says a fixed-wing tanker doused the fire with water numerous times Thursday, and they now have a sophisticated system of hoses on the ground to deliver water to the fire.
He expects that they’ll have a “good handle” on the fire by the end of the day Friday.
The fire burning along the Whatcom/Skagit County line started Tuesday evening.
