BELLINGHAM, Wash – Whatcom County air quality is improving for now, even as BC wildfires get worse.

The EPA air quality index for Whatcom County stood at 46 for particulates (a rating of good) as of 6am Sunday.

Washington State Department of Ecology air quality reporting stations in Bellingham and CusterĀ showed good air quality Sunday morning, while the Maple Falls station was still reporting a moderate risk of breathing problems.

Meantime, British Columbia’s wildfire situation is expected to get worse before it gets better.

BC has extended the state of emergency there for the second time, as 122 active fires continued to burn as of late Saturday as reported on the BC Wildfire Service website.
