BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A woman died in the Whatcom County Jail.
It happened Thursday.
The Sheriff’s Office says the woman in her 40s had a lot of alcohol in her system, but Saint Joseph Hospital cleared her to be jailed.
Deputies checked her at around noon and say she seemed to be OK.
But, 10 minutes later she had deteriorated and ended up dying in the cell.
The Bellingham Police Department is investigating and the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
