SEATTLE (AP) — Former Seattle Mariners star Edgar Martinez has his speech ready for when his No. 11 is retired by the club. Martinez will be the second former player to have his number retired by the Mariners, an honor that was announced in January. Ken Griffey Jr.’s number was retired a year ago following his induction into the baseball Hall of Fame.
Martinez, the Mariners current hitting coach will be celebrated all weekend long at Safeco Field. Friday is Edgar Martinez bobble-head light bat night. Saturday his number will go up in center field next to Griffey Jr. and Jackie Robinson during a pre-game ceremony. Sunday is Edgar Martinez replica jersey day.
You can hear all three games on KPUG 1170AM & 97.9FM in Bellingham.
