SEATTLE (AP) – A national food group sued the Army Corps of Engineers over commercial shellfish harvesting in our state.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court in Seattle.

The Center for Food Safety said the Corps violated federal laws when it approved a general national permit for shellfish operations.

The group contends the Corps didn’t consider the environmental impacts of shellfish operations.

In documents, the Corps said its permit was designed to provide expedited review of projects that have minimal impact on the aquatic environment.
