BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A “convoluted” series of events in Bellingham’s Roosevelt Neighborhood and beyond ended with a man in custody.
Police said the man brandished AK-47 assault rifle.
Bellingham Police Lieutenant Don Almer said police received a call around midnight Monday about a man brandishing an AK-47.
Almer said two groups were arguing near the Denny’s restaurant on Meridian Street when one man brought out the firearm.
Both groups were gone when police arrived, but around 5:00 am officers responded to calls of shots fired and a distraught man with an AK-47 near Texas Street.
Police tracked the suspect to duplexes in the 2100 block of Yew Street. A Bearcat tactical vehicle and SWAT were deployed, and a helicopter was put on standby.
Officers were able to locate the man a few blocks away, where they arrested him, Almer said.
No one was hurt and no one else has been arrested.
