BLAINE, Wash. – A fiery crash in Blaine leaves a local teen dead.

The State Patrol said Melissa Ortiz was driving a BMW on I-5 Sunday morning when the car left the roadway.

It drove in the median for hundreds of feet until it hit a guardrail.

Troopers said that’s when the BMW went airborne, landed on West Road about 20 feet below, and burst into flames.

Troopers said the 19-year-old wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and speed caused the wreck.
