SHORELINE, Wash. (AP) – Authorities say a semitrailer struck a 14-year-old Shorewood High School student riding a bicycle near his school just north of Seattle.

King County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Cindi West said the boy was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after the Wednesday morning crash.

Michelle Pidduck with the Shoreline Fire District told KOMO the incident didn’t end with the collision, but that “he was unfortunately drug about 30 to 40 feet.”

Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg said the boy was in critical condition.

The boy was riding on the sidewalk and the truck hit him as it made a right turn, the sheriff’s office said.

West said any specific factors contributing to the crash have not yet been determined.
