BELLINGHAM, Wash.- The second of three storms hit Whatcom County hard Wednesday.
Ted Boehner with the National Weather Service said many of the outages were caused by trees that still have their leaves, with wind gusts near 50 mph.
But Wednesday’s storm may help prevent similar troubles in the future. “These are the kind that do a little of nature’s pruning,” Boehner said.
A flood warning Thursday affects the Nooksack River at North Cedarville with some shallow flooding possible in Lynden.
The NWS predicts a third storm, similar to Wednesday’s storm, for the weekend.
Roughly 2,000 Puget Sound Energy customers were without power in Whatcom County Thursday morning.
The areas worst affected by power outages were Deming and Maple Falls, with a combined 1,500 in the dark. Some areas near Lynden and Everson were also affected.
PSE sent crews out and hoped to have most of the outages restored Thursday morning.
