PORT ANGELES, Wash. – A Coast Guard ship sent to fight narcotics trafficking on the high seas has returned home to Port Angeles.

The crew of Cutter Active intercepted vessels and drug smugglers off the coast of Central America, seizing more than 1.5 tons of cocaine, worth over $49 million.

In the Coast Guard’s statement, Commander Chris German said the crew “performed superbly” in their many missions over the past 2 months. They got back Tuesday.

Executive Officer Jennifer Runion emphasized how much the multi-faceted crew aboard Cutter Active worked together to make the mission a success.

“It was great to have the opportunity to work with Canadian and Mexican navies to combat these transnational organized crime networks,”  Officer Runion said.
