BIRCH BAY, Wash – Whatcom county public works staff is now projecting a September 2018 start to the project commonly known as the Birch Bay Berm.
Public Works has made their final budget request for the project appropriation, before securing all the water front rights-of-way and permits needed.
The Northern Light quotes county engineering manager Jim Karcher as saying the goal is to avoid another procedural hurdle after final permitting is complete, to expedite the start of construction.
The project was first proposed in 1975 and planning began in 2012.
