MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – The Mount Vernon police officer who survived being shot in the head, but lost his sight, is getting a big “thank you” from his community.
Home Depot employees are volunteering their time to improve Mike McClaughry’s home as part of the store’s “Celebration of Service” campaign.
KOMO reported a $9,000 grant will allow volunteers to install a new fence, raised garden beds and a retaining wall.
McClaughry said he’s deeply moved. “I’ve always been looking forward for over a year now to be able to go into my back yard and walk around without having to worry,” McClaughry said.
McClaughry was shot nearly a year ago while on duty.
