GLACIER, Wash. – Two young Bellingham snowboarders have been missing for just over a week.

Jake Amancio and Drew Lenz went missing November 12 while snowboarding in the backcountry.

While heavy snow has suspended the search in higher elevations, crews tell KOMO they are doing what they can. Creeks are still open despite the heavy snowfall.

Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo said conditions have been bad and are deteriorating, so the search has been called off for now.

More snow, rain and warmer temperatures are making searching even more dangerous, and search crews have a vast area to cover without knowing where the pair may have gone, Elfo said.

Elfo said they are still committed to finding Amancio and Lenz when conditions allow.
