SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has claimed left-handed pitcher Sam Moll off waivers from Pittsburgh. Seattle’s 40-man roster is now at 37 players.
Moll, 25 (turns 26 on Jan. 3), was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh from Oakland on Nov. 27 after he was designated for assignment on Nov. 20. He was 0-0 with 3 holds and a 10.80 ERA (8 ER, 6.2 IP) with 7 strikeouts in 11 relief appearances with Oakland in 2017.
He split the 2017 minor league season between AAA Albuquerque (Colorado) and AAA Nashville (Oakland) where he combined to go 3-2 with a 3.64 ERA (22 ER, 54.1 IP) with 47 strikeouts in 50 combined games.
He was acquired by Oakland on Aug. 16 in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. After tossing 7.0 shutout innings with Nashville, he was called up to the Majors on Sept. 1 and made his Major League debut that day at Seattle, retiring the only batter he faced.
