The state Department of Health took public comments Tuesday on a proposal to allow a third gender option on birth certificates in the state.
Christie Spice with the Health Department says it’s already common practice for an X to be entered on a birth certificate if a baby’s sex is undetermined.
The new rule could go into effect by February if approved by the Secretary of Health.
