WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Nooksack 306 saga continues as tribal chairman Bob Kelly vows to start a new round of dis-enrollment hearings now that the tribal council elections are done.
The Seattle Times reports Kelly wrote in an email that “at this point we have no reason to believe that they are Native Americans,” regarding the roughly 300 Nooksack tribal members the council is trying to oust.
Four candidates that ran against council incumbents and lost have already filed a protest with the tribe’s election board citing what they call irregularities, including claims that members were bribed to vote for the incumbents.
Kelly writes, “All of their allegations are absurd and not true.”
