BLAINE, Wash. – In another sign of improving Whatcom County water quality, residents of Blaine are celebrating their one-year anniversary of the lifting of shellfish harvest restrictions in Drayton Harbor.

Blaine’s outdoor  “Shellebration” Friday, December 15th from 4-6pm will include presentations of community awards, plus the opportunity to sample local oysters.

In a news release, the Whatcom County Public Works department credits 20 years of storm water, septic, and marina pump-out system efforts for the improvement in water quality there that led to the lifting of restrictions in 2016.
