MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – More than three months after an accidental release during the collapse of the Cooke Aquaculture fish farm near Cypress Island, Atlantic salmon are still being caught about 40 miles up the Skagit River.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports catches near Mount Vernon and Lyman, and most recently east of Hamilton, sometimes in ratios greater than the native, local chums.

In November, the non-profit group Wild Fish Conservancy filed a lawsuit against Cooke Aquaculture.

That was after an October approval by the State Department of Fish and Wildlife for Cooke to rear an additional million more Atlantic salmon in Puget Sound.
