BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham Police arrested nine people during a recent emphasis on bike thefts.
Lieutenant Bob Vander Yacht says they planted an unsecured bait bike in locations around the city.
“We had put it out at Cornwall Park, up on east Sunset, up around the Kmart, Safeway area, we put it down on Holly Street we put it by the public library, it was different locations,”
He says it was stolen every time.
The bike is valued at about $700 so the people arrested face gross misdemeanor theft charges.
Vander Yacht says bike owners need to be diligent about securing their bikes.
And he recommends that you register your bike with the police department.
