PORT ANGELES, Wash. – Cooke Aquaculture’s Port Angeles net pen lease was canceled Sunday due to what the Public Lands Commissioner called clear violations of the lease.
The company also operates another salmon farm off Cypress Island where more than 160,000 non-native adult Atlantic salmon escaped into the Puget Sound last summer.
Commissioner Hilary Franz said Cooke was operating in an unauthorized area and failed to keep the facility in safe condition, among other issues.
