An interesting trend is happening on Washington highways…. as the economy continues to rebound more drivers are hitting the freeway.
With unemployment rates continuing to decrease, more drivers hit the road in 2016. The Washington State Department of Transportation saw a 6.4 percent increase of traffic on I-5 from 2014 to 2016.
It is not only roadways seeing an influx in traffic, Washington State Ferries ridership increased 4 percent, from 23.2 million in 2014 to 24.2 million in 2016.
Following the lead of the local economy, frequent travelers could see even a boost in congestion and delays, mainly due to drivers traveling more miles on urban highways.
