Daulton Hommes named GNAC men’s basketball player of the week

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University sophomore forward Daulton Hommes has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 25-31, announced Tuesday by the conference office in Portland, Ore.

Hommes (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian) averaged 23.0 points per game in WWU’s pair of wins last week, scoring 17 points in the 86-80 win at Seattle Pacific and 29 points in the 90-86 win at Saint Martin’s. For the week he also averaged 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game, while combining to shoot 46.9% (15-for-32) from the floor. He was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line and was 6-for-12 from 3-point range.

For the season Hommes has scored in double-digits in 11 of 12 games, leading the Vikings and ranking 3rd in the GNAC averaging 18.9 points per game. He is also listed amongst league leaders in rebounds (13th, 6.3 per game), field goal percentage (17th, 51.7%), free throw percentage (3rd, 91.7%) and blocked shots (9th, 1.2 per game). Over his last four games Hommes is averaging 24.0 points per game.

Hommes also received the GNAC weekly honor for Dec. 11-17, with teammate Trey Drechsel (Woodinville, WA/Cedar Park Christian) winning the award for Nov. 27-Dec. 3.

The Vikings are 9-3 overall and lead the GNAC with a 4-0 league record. WWU hosts Northwest Nazarene (Thursday, 7 pm) and Central Washington (Saturday, 7 pm) on WECU Court in Carver Gym.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University sophomore forward Daulton Hommes has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 11-17, announced Monday by the conference office in Portland, Ore.

Hommes (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian) averaged 19.0 points per game in WWU’s three games last week, scoring 57 points to lead the Vikings to a 2-1 record. He also averaged at team-high 7.7 rebounds per game while playing an average of 34.0 minutes per game.

The sophomore forward scored a career-high 37 points in the 80-76 victory over Harding in the Hoops in Hawai’i Holiday Classic, the most points scored by a GNAC player this season and tied for 13th in WWU single-game history.

During the three games, Hommes combined to shoot 45.7% from the field (16-for-35) and was 22-for-25 from the free throw line (88.0%).

Hommes has started all 10 games for the 7-3 Vikings this season, leading the team averaging 18.1 points per game and has scored in double-digits in 9 of 10 games. Among GNAC leaders he is listed 4th in scoring average (18.1), 13th in rebounding (5.9 reb/game), 15th in field goal percentage (53.1/60-for-113) and 3rd in free throw percentage (90.0/45-for-50).

The GNAC Player of the Week is the first in Hommes’ career, and is the second Viking to earn the honor this season joining Trey Drechsel (Nov. 27-Dec. 3).

Western returns to GNAC play after the Christmas holiday with road contests at Seattle Pacific (Thursday, Dec. 28) and Saint Martin’s (Saturday, Dec. 30). Both games will tip off at 7:30 pm and can be followed live via webcast and live stats at GNAC.tv.
