BELLINGHAM, Wash. – An ugly 11-vehicle crash involving 12 people shut down northbound I-5 during Monday morning’s commute.
The State Patrol says they are still investigating who and what caused the chain reaction crash at the Ohio/State Street exit around 8am.
Troopers don’t believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.
Most vehicles were driven from the scene, but two were totaled, including a van that was carrying a 7-year-old girl who was taken to PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center.
A woman was also injured, but the seriousness of their injuries was not immediately available.
UPDATE: All lanes remain blocked on NB I-5 in Bellingham due to this serious multi-vehicle crash. Traffic is being diverted off of I-5 @ Lakeway Dr. There's currently a 3.5-mile backup that continues to grow. Avoid the area! pic.twitter.com/NOQnKSrvmk
