BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A man convicted of stabbing another man to death in 2015 got eight years shaved off his sentence.

William Smith was originally convicted of first degree manslaughter in the stabbing death of 25-year-old Derek McClellan during a drug-fueled fight at a trailer home in south Whatcom County.

The Bellingham Herald reports he appealed his 18-year sentence and the state Court of Appeals overturned his conviction.

Smith pleaded guilty to second degree manslaughter this week in Whatcom Superior Court and Judge Charles Snyder re-sentenced him to ten years in prison.
