WHATCOM COUNTY, WA.- While Whatcom County lawmakers backed the Hirst fix, Republican Senator Keith Wagoner of Sedro-Woolley voted it down calling it a “slippery slope.”

Wagoner represents the 39th District which includes most of Skagit and Snohomish Counties and says this bill is “not based in science,” but in, “bureaucratic arguments.”

The former mayor of Sedro-Woolley says having seen the impact of the Hirst decision first hand he will “continue to fight for water rights in the 39th District” that “respects” his neighbors.

Skagit County is specifically exempt from the Hirst legislation at the request of the tribes that want to work on other measures.
