SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. – Blanchard Mountain has been protected from logging with the passage of the state Capital Budget.
There is money in that budget to protect a big part of the popular hiking spot that includes the Oyster Dome.
But the stalemate over water rights legislation also stalled the Capital Budget, leaving Blanchard’s protection from logging in limbo.
Local conservationist Mitch Friedman says Blanchard has now been saved, with just a few minor hurdles left.
