Washington (AP) The Cheesecake Factory restaurant chain will pay $15,000 to settle a federal complaint against its downtown Seattle location after it fired a deaf part-time dishwasher.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says the restaurant didn’t provide closed captioning for training and orientation videos that Oleg Ivanov was required to watch.
The agency said he was fired for missing a shift, but he wasn’t provided an interpreter in disciplinary meetings.
The Calabasas Hills, California-based chain will provide closed captioning for the training and orientation videos from now on as part of the settlement.
