Five people were arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail Tuesday after police say they were squatting in a home in a defunct housing development in Birch Bay.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s office says Jesse Swendt, Daisy Hordyczuk, Kimberly Swendt, and Derrick Brown, all of Bellingham, along with Brandon Bilyeu of Blaine, were occupying the house on Camas Drive in the Horizon development overlooking Birch Bay.
The Sheriff’s office responded to a report of trespass in the house, and it took 3 hours, a crisis negotiator and a SWAT team for all five occupants of the house to exit.
All were charged with criminal trespass and resisting arrest; Jesse Swendt also had a US Marshall’s warrant for dangerous drugs.
